A touching scene unfolded this week after a loyal dog in North Carolina stayed beside his injured owner for six days in the woods, refusing to leave his side until help arrived.
According to local authorities, the man had slipped while hiking and was unable to move. His dog, a 3-year-old mixed breed named Buddy, stayed with him the entire time—bringing him sticks, licking his face to keep him awake, and barking nonstop at passing hikers until someone finally heard.
Rescuers said the only reason the man survived was because Buddy never left him.
“If that dog didn’t stay and keep him warm at night, we would’ve had a very different outcome,” said one of the first responders.
The man is now recovering in the hospital, and Buddy has been hailed as a hero in the community.
