In a scene wildlife experts are calling “extraordinary and deeply moving,” hikers in northern Norway stumbled upon a brown bear calmly guarding a tiny lost kitten deep inside the forest.

According to witnesses, the bear stood watch over the trembling kitten, keeping a protective distance but never letting it out of sight. When hikers approached, the bear did not show aggression — only caution — as if ensuring no harm came to the small creature.

Wildlife officials believe the kitten may have wandered away from a nearby rural settlement. What surprised them most was the bear’s behavior:
Instead of ignoring or attacking the kitten, the animal appeared to be shielding it.

One ranger said:
