A routine afternoon bus ride turned into chaos today after a suspicious device believed to be an improvised explosive was discovered hidden beneath a seat. The incident happened around 3:45 PM on Route 27, one of the city’s busiest bus lines.
According to officials, a passenger noticed a small metal box with exposed wiring tucked between the seat and the wall. The rider immediately alerted the driver, who quickly pulled over and evacuated all 38 passengers within seconds.
Witnesses described moments of panic as people rushed out, some leaving personal items behind. “I heard someone yell ‘bomb’ and everyone started running,” said one passenger.
Police and the bomb squad arrived within minutes, securing the area and shutting down the entire block. Nearby businesses were instructed to shelter in place as specialists examined the device.
Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the device was active, but early reports suggest it was intentionally placed and “highly suspicious.” Investigators are reviewing bus camera footage and interviewing passengers.
